Harding Middle School

Institutional Construction
in Steubenville, OH

The new Harding Middle School was built on a very compact site next to the existing school. The site differed in ground elevation by over 50’ from one end to the other. The soils were also very poor, which resulted in the drilling of numerous caissons to support the three story structure. Once out of the ground, the building stands as a masonry unit structure with over 82,000 square feet of area. It includes all the needed administrative offices, up-to-date classrooms and laboratories, a state-of-the-art media center with a translucent skylight above, a gymnasium, and a cafetorium to be utilized as both a dining hall and theater. The old school was then demolished to allow for a new parking lot to accommodate the new school and Harding Stadium. Grae-Con served as General Contractor for this project.
